I will discuss two Georgia detention centers, Irwin County Detention Center and Stewart Detention Center. Both of these detention centers have had allegations held against them in regards to human rights violations. One of which has had eugenics complaints. According to Project South and PennState, the United States is the home of the largest immigration detention operation in the world. The average cost of detaining each person is roughly $127 per day. In 2016, ICE detained on average more than 352,000 people, but in October 2016, the number reached a record high of about 41,000 people a day.

The image above is a map of 118 facilities that are dedicated detention centers or are a location that holds immigrants. The map is not a comprehensive map as there are many more detention centers in the United States that are still running. Below is the “U.S. Detention Center” map I just mentioned.

Explore more with this link to an interactive ArcGIS Online WebApp map about the detention centers that are still in use as of April 2021: Active Immigrant Detention Centers (2021) (arcgis.com) The image above is what the map should look like. With this map you can zoom in and out as well as move around. This ArcGIS WebApp will only work on laptops and desktops. It does not seem to work on smart phones.
